The Unofficial Guide to New Orleans, 2003 writes:
"Alex Patout's is one of very few restaurants in New Orleans that cooks the food of the Cajun country. On the other hand, Alex's cooking has an almost gourmet finish in many dishes, which is an accomplishment - Cajun food doesn't much lend itself to fancy service. Although the chef uses a lot of cream and butter, he also likes things like crab fat and tasso."

Zagat 2004 notes that this "upscale but not expensive" Cajun-Creole restaurant where a "friendly" staff serves up 150-plus wines and "consistently good specialties "made by real bayou chefs" within "elegant" surroundings.

First time we visited Alex Patout's: my "week-long birthday celebration"( ALWAYS in New Orleans!) March 7, 2004 We loved it!!
